Of Coventry, Birmingham, Michael Buble, and the 25th
Just got back from Coventry to watch Michael Buble in Birmingham live with the girls - Opu and Mars. Found this in Buble's concert's booklet. Fits nicely with today.

Happy 3rd Year. I survived well.

Thanx for having me girls. Love you both to bits. Seriously. I know I don't show it, but I do. Can't imagine my life without both of you.

Fairuz the Architect
Apai,

Since small, we've been partners in crime. Both of us would pair up to fight against the two other little ones in our stoopid tembak-tembak sessions or wrestling fights or indoor-golf or footie in the house games, even though it is unfair for us to do so because obviously we would win any battle since we are of course the wiser, bigger, better ones. =0P Mengalah for adik? NEVER. Haha!

Even though I've never addressed you as 'Abang' or 'Along', please know that I've always looked up to you. You have never been less than perfect to me. You have always been there to protect me whenever I needed the protection, and you've also given me space whenever I needed to be on my own. All your small petty advices were never taken lightly, and please know that I've always tried my best to never disappoint you. Your judgment in anything I do has always been important to me, no matter how ridiculous it may be.

I have always envied your magical drawing skills. I still remember the perfect portrait you drew of me wearing my stripey dress when you were merely 12 and I was 9. Even though I got irritated with you for making me not move for about an hour, the outcome was definitely worth it. Your creative skills can never be questioned.

I apologise for being the mengada sister who always complain about your long hours in the studio, or your absence from home. And about you hogging the car. =0P I should have understood that you not being there at home just shows your passion towards your work, and I should make that as a drive for me to be a workaholic like you.

Congratulations Fairuz Abdul Aziz. I am so proud of you. Nobody could have given me a better friend, mentor, and most importantly, brother.

And, I miss you so.

Much Love,
Yamin.

Rilo Kiley
Rilo Kiley is the BEST band in the world. Seriously. Watching them perform live was... life changing. Seriously. Oh My God. Even though the concert ended more than 24 hours ago, I still have goosebumps thinking about them. Just thinking about the concert gets me excited. Best Gila nak mampos. Plus, they had Grand Ole Party opening for them, and can I say Grand Ole Party is the second best band in the world? What made Grand Ole Party unique is the fact that the lead singer is also the drummer, and SHE is soooo energetic and expressive! Oh My God sumpah best gilaaaaa! Here are some pictures, but honestly these pictures don't really say much. You had to be there to know how AWESOME the performance was.

Kristin Gundred from Grand Ole Party. (Thanx to preamble for this picture.)
Grand Ole Party
Rilo Kiley
Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley

Thanx Aliaa for teman-ing me! =0)

Oh, btw. I am in love with Jenny Lewis. Seriously. She's just too perfect.

"My most fondful memory period of time if I can turn back time."

I narrowed my memories to two very fondful times, and I can't choose one over the other. So, here are my two most fondful periods of time? (Okay, dunno if the grammar there is correct. Sounds weird.)

2000-2004 : My Kolej Yayasan Saad Years

2005-2006 : My JOMAS Kickboxing Period

Certum ex Incertis
Making actuarial science as my career path has never been my first choice. Everyone told me Actuarial Science is hard, and truth be told those people managed to make me scared. Back in the days when I had to decide which path to choose, quite a number of people who saw my potential in calculations tried to get me interested in Actuarial Science, but the only answer I could give them at the time was, 'Urm, I'll think about it.'

At the young age of 14, daddy managed to spark my interest in accounting. He told me about the perks of being a Chartered Accountant, and I was conviced that I will one day definitely become a Chartered Accountant and nothing else. Becoming a CA was then included in my life-long dreams list.

And believe me, I was so determined to pursue my dream. When Miss Lai assigned us Form 4s a project that required us to map out our academic plan for the next 10years or so, instead of just 'copy and paste'-ing from the internet into a scrap book, I actually put my extra effort into it. I really researched on the numerous routes that would possibly bring me to become a Chartered Accountant in the near future. I actually read on what papers I had to take to qualify as a CPA, and then a CA. I made the extra effort because I was interested. Accounting was my field.

And my interest really showed in my accounting classes. Even though Cikgu H had numerous lame jokes and was mundane and boring at times, I always concentrated in his accounting classes. I really loved accounting! Everything was just so systematic and proper. Seriously, I loved it.

When I had to fill out my Bank Negara Scholarship form, I was required to put in a second choice for my 'Course of Study', and being so determined to become a CA I initially wanted to put in 'Accounting and Finance' in that column as well. But of course it had to be something different from my first choice, and 'Economics, Finance, Law' or whatever other courses offered by Bank Negara didn't appear appealing at the time, so I jotted down 'Actuarial Science'. Actuarial was my second choice, only because I had to have a second choice.

Once I received BNM's offer letter, I was so happy to see that I could go to the UK (instead of the USA which was my second choice for location), but was quite shocked to see that I was offered Actuarial Science instead of Accounting and Finance. Of course I had the option to appeal to Bank Negara for a change of course, and they would gladly accept my plea, but daddy managed to say something that made me accept BNMs offer as it is - "Actuarial Science may be a harder course, but if BNM is confident that you'll make it through, why can't you?"

And that is mainly the reason ladies and gentlemen, why I am doing Actuarial Science.

At the beginning of my 'journey' which was during my A-Level years in Taylors, I had a slight feeling of regret in my choice. Further Maths for me was, tough. The fact that I had emotional stuff to deal with at that time was defintely not helpful at all. I wasn't able to concentrate in class, and I was just sooo lazy to revise on my own. That was probably the only time I hated doing maths, mainly because I did not understand what I was supposed to do. I only memorized the steps on how to answer the questions, without understanding why the steps are like so. Lucky me, I got a B for that subject, instead of the Es I usually received during my internal exams in Taylors. I was glad.

So anyway, despite having that 'regret' feeling for choosing Actuarial Science, I came to London and registered myself in City Uni for that said course. First year went well, mostly because I've gone through a lot of the topics in my college years, so nothing new there. And because of the lack of new interesting stuff, I sill did not have the passion that could drive me to want to become a qualified actuary.

But surprisingly, second year gave me the spark. Robin Michaelson brought us 'to-be' actuaries to THE Institute of Actuaries headquarters in London, Staple Inn. We were briefed about the profession and such, but the one thing that caught my eye (or ears) was the old Institute of Actuaries motto -

Certum ex Incertis

which means 'Certainty out of Uncertainty'. That line made me want to listen to what was being presented. Only now I realise that an actuary's job is far from being boring and mundane, and as of now, I am really glad I chose Actuarial Science as my field. Yes, I am. Finally.

The old Institute motto seemed ridiculous because it kind of says that actuaries can give an exact prediction about the future, which obviously nobody can, so they changed it to 'Making Financial Sense of the Future.' But I still like the old one. It has that mischevious ring to it. ;0)

Be prepared people. Yameen is growing up.

haha. though i wasnt as set on actuarial science as you were on accounting, must say that we've been on similar paths.

good to know that you're enjoying it.

n though i already think econs is more fun than actuarial, still need that final push to really get into it. sooner or later it'll come to me, i'm sure.

hahaha

"List down five things you enjoy in your life right now. When you're done, tag 6 other people."

Satu : The Kitchen.
Cooking and trying new recipes, baking desserts at least once a week, buying groceries, cuci ayam & ikan & such, washing the dishes, arranging the clean dishes in the cupboard, cleaning the stove, cleaning the oven, buying new gadgets to be used in the kitchen... I am enjoying everything that involves being in the kitchen. Seriously.

Dua : London
This is mostly because London is where everyone wants to perform LIVE. I am buying concert tickets like mad. Semua concert nak pergi kalau boleh, haha. =0P

Tiga : Travelling
Well, I'm not exactly travelling right now, but I am already planning my winter holidays, my January after-exam holidays, and also my Summer holidays! Haha! Loving the anticipation of holidays!

Empat : Music
Loving my tunes, like seriously. I so can not live without music. Whatever genre, I am so enjoying all kinds of songs right now. Music gives me life! Padappaparapapa dum dee dummmm kaboom! =0)

Lima : Life.
This is of course, cliche. But seriously. I am actually enjoying my life. Yeah, of course there's that you-know-what part that's void, but I'm happy. I'm contented. I'm living my life well. Yes, I am. Seriously.

Okay, the reassurance there wasn't really reassuring. But can I say I'm trying? Okay whatever.

Safe, in a bit. Peace Out. Sayonara. Ciao Cincau. Bye bye. Taa.

Oh, terlupa. Tagging Ajin, Erin, Mars, you wearing the red shirt, you with the white earphones in your ears, and you with the yellow socks. That's six right?

I need you in London
ANNOUNCEMENT :

I am not able to use my free minutes to call overseas anymore. =0( Be it Malaysia, New Zealand, France, India, Russia, or Australia. Saya sedih.

Those who I regularly call in the countries mentioned above (you know who you are) are usually the ones I meluahkan perasaan to. You guys are the ones I run to when I'm lonely; when I have something exciting to tell; when I need encouragement; when I just need a familiar voice. Now, I can't call you guys using my free minutes anymore!!! Macam mana nak borak nihhhhhhh! Gila sedey.

Maybe I should listen to Aliaa. I have to be less dependent on you guys who are NOT in London. If I regularly call you, I would have the tendency to miss you more. So baik takyah call; takyah rindu. HAHA!

Okay, that wasn't a happy laugh. =0|

Selamat Hari Rayaaa!
I don't know if we are actually aired in Malaysia, but here's the video interview on youtube. Haha. Youtube is soo cool kan?

One thing I SO have to point out - it's soooo funny seeing all these people trying their best to cakap proper Bahasa! Wait, it's not that we don't know how to speak Malay, but it's funny hearing people say 'tidak ada' instead of 'tak ada', or 'kerana' instead of 'sebab'. Haha. =0P

Oh, this video is Part 2 out of 3. So, kalau nak check out the others, just click on the video kat atas tu and carik la Part 1 and Part 3.

Selamat Hari Raya!

Stop This Train
The song 'Stop This Train' by John Mayer says all the perfect words to fit my perception on life right now. Nobody can say it better. And John Mayer's soothing voice just makes everything much better.

"....So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young

So I play the numbers game
To find a way to say that life has just begun

Had a talk with my old man
Said "help me understand"
He said "turn sixty-eight
You renegotiate"

"Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
And don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly we'll never stop this train"

Once in awhile, when it's good
It'll feel like it should
And they're all still around
And you're still safe and sound

And you don't miss a thing
Till you cry when you're driving away in the dark
Singing

Stop this train
I wanna get off
And go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
Cause now I see I will never stop this train."

I am growing up. I am still daddy and mummy's's little girl, but I am growing up. It's not going to be Mummy's job to say all the nice things I want to hear anymore; it's not going to be daddy's job to knock some sense into me. I have to open my eyes and realise that this world is not such a bad place. I have to know on my own that this is the reality of life. I have to face this, on my own.

I am growing up. Keep in mind that I'm not grown up yet, but I will be. Soon.

Grown up or not, I love you so much Papa. I love you so much Mama. God could not have given me better parents.

KT TUNSTALL WAS SUPERB!

I bought KT Tunstall tickets for Aliaa's birthday last month, and when the day finally came, Oh My God was I super-excited about the concert!!! Doors were opening at 7pm, but I insisted that we be there by 6pm! Well, one point you should know, we had standing tickets, and *ehem* the three of us - Aliaa, me, and Opu, are obviously vertically challenged *ehem*. So, I wanted to be there early to try and get ourselves as close to the stage as possible, to make sure that we can actually see KT strumming her guitar! And of course, thanx to me, we were in the first 3 rows. =0) Yeayyy!

KT was superb I tell you! She can really perform, and she made it complete with the guitar in hand! Oh, and she probably has a gazillion guitars; she practically swapped guitars after each song! Annnd, her guitars are all soo kinky!! Complete with glitter la, flowers la, carvings la.. Cool gila!!

Oh, I soo sang my heart out throughout the night! I knew almost all the songs she performed, and I just sang! And danced! And just had fun! Sukaaanyaaaaa!!! =0D

Last night was Halloween, so the stage had two skeletons, a few green cobwebs, a few carved pumpkins, and the band had goth-like make-up and they dressed a bit 'halloween-ish'. BUT, the best was at the end of the concert, they went backstage, and wore full-suit costumes! Ala-ala power rangers costumes. Comel gilaaaaa!!!! Haha!

Oh My God KT Tunstall was superb. I needed the night out. I'm happy. =0)
